Field notes from my alien MC

Sharing a rough draft snippet from the alien novel. Still figuring out Noé’s voice but he’s getting there.

Day 47

Entry: Human Screen-Face Syndrome

Observed peculiar behaviour today. Humans stare at small rectangular devices and spontaneously bare their teeth. Not aggression – the teeth-baring happens whilst they’re alone and completely safe.

Further investigation reveals they’re looking at images of other humans they already know. Sometimes images of food. Sometimes moving pictures of small furry creatures doing nothing remarkable.

The teeth-baring (humans call it “smiling”) seems involuntary. Like a facial muscle spasm triggered by screen content. Fascinating social conditioning.

Even stranger: witnessed human crying whilst listening to organised sound waves (music). The sounds contained no actual threat or loss, yet the physical response was identical to genuine distress.

When asked, the human explained they were “happy tears.” Apparently humans leak salt water when experiencing both negative AND positive emotions. Highly inefficient system.

Note for home report: Earth humans have developed complex emotional responses to artificial stimuli. Their brains cannot distinguish between simulated and real social interaction. This may explain their pack behaviour patterns.

Recommendation: Further study needed. Possibly moving in with local specimen for closer observation.

The organisational behaviour lectures are helping me understand group dynamics better. Turns out human social structures are more complex than I initially thought. Perfect research for alien POV.
